Statement of an Undeletable Poet

I did not write to please,

but to illuminate.

I did not recite to enchant,

but to awaken.

My poems are not decorations,

but mirrors,

reflecting what we hide

in our caves of

customs,

and traditions,

and ideas,

and beliefs that fear the light.

They said, "Your poems contradict our beliefs."

So I said:

"Extremism does not begin in the poem,

but in the mind that fears it.

Extremism does not only erase the poem,

but it erases the question,

and erases the human being,

and erases the right to see, and to think, and to love.

I am an undeletable poet.

My word is a bird that cannot be imprisoned,

my poem is a light that cannot be extinguished,

my inspiration is a prayer that cannot be denied.

Those who deleted me

declared their fear of freedom,

and I,

declare my loyalty to it,

always and forever.

بيان شاعر لا يُحذف

أنا لم أكتب لأُرضي،  

بل لأُضيء.  

لم أُنشد لأُطرب،  

بل لأوقظ.  

قصائدي ليست زينة،  

بل مرايا،  

تعكس ما نخفيه  

في كهوفنا من عاداتٍ،  

وتقاليدَ،  

وأفكارٍ،  

ومعتقداتٍ تخاف النور.  

قالوا: "قصائدك تخالف معتقدنا."  

فقلتُ:  

التطرف لا يبدأ في القصيدة،  

بل في العقل الذي يخافها.  

التطرف لا يُحذف القصيدة فقط،  

بل يُحذف السؤال،  

ويُحذف الإنسان،  

ويُحذف الحق في أن نرى ونُفكر ونُحب.

أنا شاعرٌ لا يُحذف،  

كلمتي طائرٌ لا يُسجن،  

قصيدتي نورٌ لا يُطفأ،  

وإلهامي صلاةٌ لا تُمنع.

من حذفني،  

أعلن خوفه من الحرية،  

وأنا،  

أعلن ولائي لها،  

دائمًا وأبدًا.
